What is the Walkabout at Wehr?
Walkabout at Wehr is a unique trail walk at the Wehr Nature Center designed especially for families. The Walkabout, presented by the Friends of Wehr, will support children's programming at the Center and in the parks. Participants of the Walkabout are encouraged to come early or stay late to discover more about nature at the Center 

 

Where is the Walkabout taking place?
The Walkabout takes place entirely on the trails of the Wehr Nature Center – no roadways will be crossed. The Nature Center is located in Whitnall Park, southwest of the Boerner Botanical Gardens, at 9701 W. College Ave. in Franklin. Map & Directions

When is the Walkabout?
Sun., May 3, 2009 – rain or shine!

  • Noon  Same-day registration and check-in of preregistered participants
  • 1 p.m.  Opening Ceremony and Awards
  • Walk begins immediately following the Opening Ceremonies
     

How long is the Walkabout?
Choose from two distances.

  • 1-mile woodland walk designed especially for families with young children
  • 2-mile trail walk along Mallard Lake
     

What kind of surfaces do the trails have?
The trails are composed of wood-chipped segments as well as boardwalk segments.

Are ADA accommodations available?
In accordance with the ADA, we welcome accommodation requests. To assure availability of services, please contact the Wehr Nature Center at least 72 hours prior to the event.
 

Are strollers allowed?
Yes. We recommend heavy strollers for navigating the wood-chipped trails.
