Mayor Barrett Statement on the Death of Mattiebelle Woods 

Milwaukee-- Mayor Tom Barrett recognizes the profound loss to the community and family of Mattiebelle Woods upon her passing this past Thursday at age 102.  Throughout her long life, Woods was committed to the City of Milwaukee through her work in the media and government.  Her tireless efforts within the African-American community built a legacy of the importance of government participation and community involvement.  "Mattiebelle Woods was one of the most remarkable people I've ever met.  She went 100 miles per hour for 102 years," said Mayor Barrett.
