Suburban Fire Chiefs Support City of Milwaukee to be Designated Public Safety Answering Point for Milwaukee County
Milwaukee—The Milwaukee County Association of Fire Chiefs fully supports Mayor Tom Barrett's position on enhanced wireless 911 services. The Association made the announcement in a letter written to Mayor Barrett on October 15th. "It is our belief that the City of Milwaukee is best positioned to serve as the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and is prepared to provide a high level of service in processing enhanced wireless 911 service," stated James Martin, Franklin Fire Chief. If the City of Milwaukee is designated the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), all wireless 911 calls would go to directly the City of Milwaukee which has the technology to accommodate those calls. "I look forward to the opportunity for the City to provide the high level of enhanced wireless 911 services the public deserves," said Mayor Barrett.
A grant application process may soon get underway and the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors will be required to designate a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for Milwaukee County. Mayor Barrett and the Milwaukee County Association of Fire Chiefs look forward to the development and implementation of enhanced wireless 911 services in the community.
