Mayor Barrett Encourages All City Employees to Help in the Cans for Cash Recycling Challenge
Milwaukee -- Mayor Tom Barrett today sent an e-mail encouraging City employees to help in the Cans for Cash Recycling Challenge which is sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Mayor Barrett kicked off the competition last week at Hawley Environmental School. Between November 2nd and November 15th, participating cities are being challenged to collect the most tonnage of recyclable aluminum cans. The winning city will receive a $5,000 award that can be applied toward encouraging recycling. Another $5,000 award will be given to the city with the most innovative ideas for promoting recycling.
The City's activities to increase recycling for this competition include an aluminum can education and collection program with Milwaukee Public Schools and an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest line of aluminum cans. Also, containers labeled "Cans for Cash" are located around the City of Milwaukee to collect cans. Attached is the e-mail sent to City employees encouraging them to help in the Cans for Cash Recycling Challenge.
