Mayor Tom Barrett Announces Changes and Shifts in Responsibility in the Department of City Development

MILWAUKEE, WI – Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced today that Patricia Algiers, Commissioner—Department of City Development Commissioner (DCD), will step down from her post as of June 4th.

Early on, Algiers had given Mayor Barrett her resignation. At that time, she had planned to stay on until a new Commissioner could be appointed. However, due to surgery that has been scheduled for next week, Algiers has decided to leave the position sooner.

"I'm grateful for the leadership and direction Patricia has given to the Department of City Development," said Mayor Barrett. "We wish Patricia the best of luck and a quick recovery. She's been an asset to the department."

Further, Steve Jacquart will vacate his position as Deputy Commissioner of DCD to assume the role of Intergovernmental Relations Director with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD).

"Steve's talents will become an immediate and important asset to the District," said Mayor Barrett.

Mayor Barrett will take immediate steps to appoint Martha Brown Deputy Commissioner, replacing Jacquart. Brown has 25 years of experience in DCD, where she currently serves as Manager of the Development Center. Suzanne Hanson will serve as acting manager in the Development Center until the manager's position is filled.
