To date, City government has been notified that it will receive a little more than $33 million in formula allocations. These funds will be spent in accordance with detailed program rules published by the federal agencies listed below. Funds will be used to advance the City government’s mission to enhance the safety, prosperity and quality of life of Milwaukee citizens, working directly and through partnerships with our community stakeholders.
The chart below provides information about each formula allocation. This by no means a final list. More details will be coming.
$5.7 million
Milwaukee Police Department will receive 59% ($4 million)
Milwaukee County will receive 41% ($1.7 million)
Funds will be used to prevent, fight and prosecute crime.
Funds will be used to support projects and programs that promote job creation and economic development.
Funds will be used for services to homeless citizens, homeless prevention and activities including rental assistance, housing relocation and stabilization services.
Funds will be used for capital and management activities.
Funds will be used for asthma and lead-abatement related activities.
Funds will be used to promote energy efficiency while providing green jobs training and employment opportunities for citizens.
DOL Workforce Investment Grants
Youth summer/year round employment, training and support services: $3.8 million.
Adult job training, placement assistance and support services: $1.4 million.
Dislocated worker job training and placement and support services: $1.9 million.
ARRA Administration: $807,596.
In some cases, the State of Wisconsin has also received a formula allocation. (More information about Wisconsin’s allocations is available at www.recovery.wisconsin.gov.) The City of Milwaukee is in the process of competing for a portion of the State’s allocation for the following: Other opportunities are also forthcoming.
Some of that money – approximately $38 million – will be shared by local governments in the Milwaukee area (including Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties) to repair arterial and collector streets.
The State also has allotted $15 million of its stimulus allocation for transportation enhancement projects throughout Wisconsin. The City of Milwaukee will apply for part of those funds as well.
