Off-Duty Sergeant Arrests Drunk Driver

Milwaukee Police Department
Office of Media and Communications

Feb. 17 - An off-duty Milwaukee Police sergeant arrested a drunk driver after the driver fled the scene of a traffic crash shortly after 5 p.m. on February 16. Sergeant Joseph Seitz was driving westbound on W. Blue Mound Road when he saw a Chrysler minivan rear-end a car that was stopped at the red light at N. 52nd Street. The suspect then quickly drove off. Sergeant Seitz called 911 and followed the suspect to a parking lot at N. Glenview and W. Blue Mound, where he detained him until on-duty officers arrived.

The suspect, a 54-year-old Milwaukee man, appeared to be impaired by alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. A breath test revealed the suspect’s Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) to be twice the legal limit. This is the suspect’s second drunk driving offense, having last been convicted in December 2008.

The car the suspect hit sustained minor damage. The driver of that car did not require medical attention on the scene.
