When Victor Veloz shot two Milwaukee Police Officers on November 6, 2007, he was 15 years old. Earlier this year, Veloz was sentenced to 60 years in prison for shooting Officers Alex Arce and Jose Lopez. He was affiliated with the Latin Kings street gang and on the night of November 6, he also was involved in a shooting of members of the Mexican Posse gang. Both those gangs are known to run on the South Side of Milwaukee.
Chief Edward A. Flynn and D.A. John Chisholm are sending the message to anyone associated with a gang or carrying a gun that they will get arrested and they will do some serious time for their crimes. Clear Channel Outdoor is helping get the message out with six billboards placed throughout Milwaukee’s South Side that warn gang members of the serious consequences of their actions.
The new billboards were unveiled on October 17, 2008. They send a BIG message to gang members and those who carry guns in the city.
