Milwaukee by Bike

Update to City Bike Plan: The City of Milwaukee is currently in the process of updating its bicycle master plan.   You can see existing planning documents by clicking on the Bicycle Planning page navigtion button to the left.  We also have created a special website with a survey to gather input and to keep people up to date about the planning process. for this purpose.  It is accessible by clicking here.

Milwaukee by BikeWelcome to the bicycle information pages. Here you will find most everything you need to know to help you get around Milwaukee by Bike. Bicycling is a fun, healthy and safe way to travel in Milwaukee. If you have any questions about getting around Milwaukee by bike, from where to find a map to bicycle friendly places to stay or visit, feel free to contact Dave Schlabowske, the City of Milwaukee' Bicycle Pedestrian Coordinator (that's me in the photo to the right) via email or by phone at 414-286-3144.

Whether you are riding to get to work at one of the city's bike friendly employers like Northwestern Mutual or We Energies, pedaling to get a steamy latte at the new Alterra Coffee by the lake or to enjoy the 3 season patio at the popular Trocadero, our network of more than 45 miles of bike lanes, 50 miles of bike paths and 100 miles of designated on-street bike routes make it easy to get where you want to go on two wheels.

And when you get there, you will find a secure place to lock your bicycle thanks to the city's Park for Free program that offers free bike parking racks to Milwaukee businesses. The City has more than 2,000 bike parking racks, and more are installed every year. For more information about how to get a rack for your place of business or employment, just go to our Park for Free page or click here to request a rack by email.

Milwaukee by BikeIf bicyclists are an indicator species of a healthy city, then Milwaukee is more fit and vibrant than ever. There seem to be more and more bicyclists on Milwaukee's streets every day. And Milwaukee is also home to a burgeoning bicycle industry with nearby Hayes Bicycle Group bringing Wheelsmith, Sun-Ringle and Manitou to Milwaukee. With all the new development going in downtown and in our traditional neighborhoods like Bay View, Riverwest or the Washington Heights, it is no wonder we are seeing so many people choosing to leave their car at home and experience Milwaukee by Bike.

Tom Stacy, an employee of Eppstein Uhen Architects sits astride one of the custom EUA bicycles the company has at it's office in the Third Ward.  EUA keeps the bikes so employees who cannot bike to work can still run errands during lunch or get to nearby work meetings on two wheels.  The bicycles are made by the Milwaukee Bicycle Company.
